Pelican Adventures: Creative Activities with Pelican Coloring Pages
Pelican coloring pages can be the start of many exciting and educational activities. Here are three fun activities that kids can enjoy with pelican coloring pages:
1. Pelican Habitat Exploration
- Objective: Learn about the environments where pelicans live.
- Activity: After coloring their pelicans, children can create a habitat for them. This could include a seascape, a lake, or a marshy area. They can use materials like blue paper for water, cotton balls for clouds, and green paper for vegetation. This activity helps children understand the natural habitat of pelicans and how they interact with their environment.
2. Pelican Feeding Game
- Objective: Understand pelican feeding habits in a fun way.
- Activity: Create a simple game where children help the pelican ‘catch’ fish. Cut out small fish shapes from paper and attach a paper clip to each. Then, make a ‘beak’ using a clothespin or a homemade beak from paper. Attach a magnet to the beak. Children can use the beak to pick up fish, simulating how pelicans scoop fish out of the water. This game is a playful way to learn about pelican feeding habits.
3. Pelican Story Time
- Objective: Encourage creativity and storytelling.
- Activity: After coloring, children can use their pelican pages to create a story or a comic strip. They could tell a tale about a day in the life of a pelican, an adventure it has, or create a story about the pelican’s journey across the sea. This activity promotes creativity, imagination, and can help develop narrative skills.

All About Pelicans
Pelicans are big, beautiful birds that are famous for their long beaks and throat pouches. There are eight different species of pelicans in the world, but the most common one is the American white pelican. These birds have white feathers with black wings and a yellow-orange beak. The male and female pelicans look the same.
One of the coolest things about pelicans is their beaks. They use their beaks to scoop up fish from the water, and they can hold up to three gallons of water in their throat pouches! They also use their beaks to cool off on hot days by flapping them like a fan. Pelicans are very social birds and can often be seen flying in a group, or “squadron,” above the water.
Pelicans are found all over the world, but they are most commonly found in warm, coastal areas. They are very good swimmers and divers and can stay underwater for up to three minutes!
Pelicans also like to sunbathe and will often spread their wings out to dry off after swimming. Our pelican coloring pages are a fun way to learn more about pelicans and their unique features. You can use any colors you want to create your beautiful pelican picture!
